  • They were just rumors and lies. They came to me via an early morning phone call. “Representative John Knight and two others from Alabama State University have been indicted. The indictments were sealed. They opened them yesterday. The arrests will come sometime today or tomorrow.”   This was stated as an absolute fact. I did not know what was fact and what was fiction but I do know how false rumors flow in these situations. That was six weeks ago. Former Alabama Attorney General Bill Baxley said, “You can indict a ham sandwich.” I wanted to be there for Representative Knight at this critical time, so I called and told him that I was coming by Alabama State University.
